Η «ομίχλη καπνού» ή «καπνός Αρκτικής θάλασσας» δεν είναι συχνό φαινόμενο στην περιοχή μας, Συνήθως καταγράφεται στις βόρειες θάλασσες και στην Αρκτική! Πρόκειται για ειδικό τύπο ομίχλης οριζόντιας μεταφοράς, που δημιουργείται εξαιτίας της μεγάλης διαφοράς της εξωτερικής θερμοκρασίας σε σχέση με τη θερμοκρασία της θάλασσας. Συγκεκριμένα, ο θαλάσσιος αυτός καπνός σχηματίζεται όταν πολύ ψυχρός αέρας εισβάλει απότομα πάνω από πολύ θερμότερη θαλάσσια επιφάνεια. Οι υδρατμοί ψύχονται και παραμένουν στην επιφάνεια του νερού για περισσότερη ώρα, κάνοντας τη θάλασσα να μοιάζει σαν καζάνι που βράζει… Οι φωτογραφίες του Cyclades24.gr είναι ενδεικτικές της κατάστασης που επικράτησε από νωρίς το πρωί.
