Greek unemployment rate stays unchanged in October despite pandemic

The Greek unemployment rate was 16.7 pct of the workforce in October, unchanged from October 2019 and September 2020, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday, according to ANA. The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the number of unemployed totaled 786,439 in October, up 446 from October 2019 and up 287 from September 2020, with the number of employed people in the country totaling 3,925,372 (up 0.3 pct from October 2019 and up 0.2 pct from September 2020). Among the country's regions, Epirus-Western Macedonia recorded the highest unemployment rate (22.2 pct in October from 19.5 pct in October 2019), followed by Aegean (20.6 pct from 13.7 pct), Crete (19.3 pct from 12 pct), Macedonia-Thrace (18.2 pct from 18.7 pct), Peloponnese-Western Greece-Ionian Islands (17.9 pct from 16.9 pct), Thessaly-Central Greece (17.6 pct from 18.1 pct) and Attica (13.4 pct from 15.7 pct).
