Euro-Mediterranean Conference to focus on escalating Turkish provocations

The issues of Turkey’s continuous provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean and the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation will be at the heart of the Euro-Mediterranean Conference in Corsica as well as the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron that will take place at 5 pm, int.ert.gr reports. This is yet another diplomatic effort to de-escalate tensions but also a clear warning to Ankara concerning subsequent sanctions if it does not stop its provocations, two weeks before the EU Summit. Moreover, Mr. Mitsotakis’ article published in several European newspapers, calls on the neighboring country to stop its aggressive behavior, otherwise, it will face substantial sanctions. Last night, the Prime Minister took part in a teleconference with the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. According to government sources, the possibility of imposing sanctions on Turkey is on the table and Greece has Europe’s support regarding the situation in Moria and the refugee issue.
