Lisbon Addictions conference 2019: The use of cognitive enhancers in the workplace and the implications for OSH

In the context of an increasingly competitive society and working environment, the use of performance-enhancing drugs is expected to grow in the future while the long-term consequences are still unknown. This scenario was further explored at the Lisbon Addictions conference 2019 last October.During a session organised by EU-OSHA, a review was made on the prevalent use of cognitive enhancers, as well as its effects on workers and work and the implications and challenges for occupational safety and health. An employer provided its perspective on how the challenge can be defined, identified and managed in the workplace. EU-OSHA outlined the need for further evidence to support policymaking and practical interventions.
