Diaspora Greeks gather to celebrate Christmas even in Tokyo

The Greek community in Japan recently came together to celebrate Christmas at a festive party hosted by the groups ”Greeks of Japan” and the ”Japan-Greece Society.” The December 9th festivities took place in the country’s capital of Tokyo, according to greekreporter.com The Greek Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Constantin Cakioussis, along with dignitaries from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Greek Chamber of Commerce, took part in the festive celebrations. The Greek citizens who are currently living and working in Japan were able to meet the distinguished visitors and had an opportunity to celebrate their heritage at this special time of year. All the attendees sampled delicacies made by the famous Japanese chef Manaka-san at the Greek taverna “Milieu”. There were numerous sponsors of the celebration, most of them offering Greek-themed gifts to those who attended the party, reminding them of the tastes of home. The “Greeks in Japan” group is a vibrant community which contributes to the close relations between the two countries. Increasingly active in recent years, the group has sponsored many events, mainly within the framework of ”Cultural Months” and ”Cultural Years”, which have strengthened the ties between the two nations.
