Hard Rock + Action Sports Equals the Ultimate Family All Inclusive

Oh, my boys are going to love this…That was the recurring theme at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, a resort which perfectly blurs the lines between posh luxury and family-friendly fun. From the lobby and hallways which boast music memorabilia at every turn to the rooms themselves which seem almost too good to be true, there’s an overwhelming sense of “I can’t believe a place like this exists, and I get to be here!”So, it was with plans already percolating for my next family vacation, I saw Woodward.Camp Woodward is a well-known leader in lifestyle and action sports. With centers across the United States and expanding internationally, they’re attracting everyone from well-known pro athletes to kids who just want to learn some action sports. In partnership with Hard Rock, Woodward Riviera Maya is the first action sports facility in Mexico and boasts a variety of programs for kids and teens of all abilities—plus chances for adult guests and teambuilding activities.Guests can test their mettle or learn new skills in skateboarding, BMX, scooter, parkour, gymnastics, cheer and dance, indoor dry land snowboarding and skiing.Riviera Maya also includes an interactive digital media space where high-resolution cameras can be checked out to digitally record their time at the facility. The digital media program also encompasses Hard Rock’s signature Music Lab.The facility also includes the one-of-a-kind Woodward WreckTangle themed ninja obstacle course which encouraged guests to strategically move through challenging obstacles such as the “Rope Swing to Cargo Crawl” and “Rotating Rings.”WATCH: Paradise for AllAs the group moved from event to event, we had fun regardless of our various fitness levels and I just kept taking pictures to send my family to inspire them for their next trip back. The WreckTangle, especially, is suddenly on a lot more bucket lists thanks to my social media posts. For those looking to stay physically fit on vacation, Woodward might be the most fun you and your family could have at any resort on the planet, but it’s not the only offering from the health-conscious Hard Rock. After experiencing their Rock Om yoga program (down by the beach no less) and an amazing fitness center, I returned home not only without the “vacation bloat” many suffer from cruises and all-inclusive resorts, but I was more physically fit and kept the gains going with a reinvigorated effort at my hometown gym. This style of vacationing may be foreign to some, who look at such trips as rare and time to “do nothing,” but Hard Rock is emblematic of recent travel trends toward more immersive, more interactive and more transformative trips. More and more travelers are looking for trips where they can learn, grow and expand at places other than the buffet or room minibar.Hard Rock delivers in so many ways.Got a tween or teenage son or daughter always wiping out on the bicycle? I bet you’ll love the smile on their face after recovering from a ramp jump into a foam pit.Have a young child learning gymnastics? Just wait until he or she is mastering tucks, rolls and even wall walks on some of the most awesome trampolines you’ll ever see.Maybe it’s the guitar that has your child enamored. Well, of course, Hard Rock has something for that too. Check out a real-life fender guitar and Crosley record player and have them jam along to some of history’s greatest hits on Vinyl—the way music was intended to be heard.Trust me: The relaxing part of vacation can still happen too.My new happy place is the upstairs terrace my room featured, fully equipped with an amazing view and a two-person hydro tub. I enjoyed a bottle of Merlot up there my first night and found time to relax in the tub each day of my stay—only realizing one can order room service directly to the terrace after it was too late. Oh well, there’s always next time.Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya already checks all the boxes when it comes to a great all-inclusive. The beach area is nice for those that long for sand and sun and salt in their life. The pool areas are amazing whether in the adults-only or family-friendly areas. The food is over-the-top both ordered to the room or enjoyed in one of the many excellent restaurants. With the addition of Woodward and a continued move toward more-active and more-transformative vacations, it’s becoming an even more amazing place for families.
