Have a Twin-Cam with 30,000 miles on it? YOU NEED TO READ THIS (By the Speedway) $1400

QR Code Link to This Post Is your Harley Twin Cam getting a few miles on it? The dealer says to "inspect" the cam chain tensioners every 30,000 miles, well, no one is going to just inspect them, they will change them while it is apart. This cost hundreds of dollars, and you still have the same cam set up. They will change the cam chain tensioners for just over $800.00, but, you have the same cams, bearings, etc. Or they will talk you into the conversion with new cam plate and oil pump, guess what, you STILL have tensioners that will wear out!!! And that will cost more than my set-up. Call me for getting the best deal on getting the complete S&S Gear Drive kit, Screamin Eagle adjustable pushrods, all new gaskets, and oil and filter change.(This kit replaces all your cam bearings, cams, O-rings, grade 8 fasteners, and you have gear drive instead of the chains and tensioners) You will have noticeable power increase (15-20 horsepower), and better throttle response, most guys say "It is like getting a new bike!!!" For just a little more than the dealers "inspection", you never again have to mess with the weakest link in the twin-cam engines. 1999-2005 have spring tensioners that wear faster than the newer ones, BUT, THEY ALL WILL WEAR OUT!!!! Plastic shoe (with a steel core) with a chain running on it.....When the plastic wears thru and you start chipping metal into the engine you are screwed, you will need a new engine. This is by far the smartest repair you can do to your bike, if a cam tensioner fails, it will trash your engine--PERIOD.............With Gear Drive you have no maintenance, EVER. Have included some pictures of the inner cam bearing surface on stock cams and some spring style (1999-2006) tensioners that had 24,000 miles on them. If you are going to keep your bike or just want more power, THIS is the smartest way to go. The other pictures are of the NEW HYDRAULIC cam tensioners, this bike had 18,000 miles on it. There are a few of years 99-05 engines with all less than 34,000 miles on them. The 6th-4th pictures from the last are of a 2007 with 23,500 miles, lucky guy, he was just about to have a catastrophic engine failure, the third from the last is a 2003 with 47,000 miles and the tensioner was completely broken off=another lucky guy because he shut it down soon as he heard a noise, because I told him last year he was riding on borrowed time. He trailered it home and saved him thousands, not needing a new engine. Expert installation with complete component matching kit from S&S. $1400.00 for standard cams, $1500.00 for the "easy start" cams(built in automatic compression releases). Or I will sell you the parts for 13% off retail and you can install them yourself. I am a dealer for DynoJet, so I can put a Dyno-Proven Download in your bike with PowerVision for hundreds less than others. How? In the most severe cases, as the spring loaded cam chain follower fails it shreds plastic material that fouls the rotary gear oil pump cutting off oil flow to the engine that can cause sudden catastrophic engine failure and destruction. Also, metal to metal contact in these shoes produces metal filings to disperse into the oil prior to being filtered by the oil filter. If this happens be prepared (worst case) to buy a completely new motor as rebuilding the engine may not be feasible. This is not a likely situation, but a realistic possibility. OK, now that we have ruffled everybody's feathers, how can we combat this? S&S has truly been visionary in solving this issue. They had the foresight to develop a gear drive system to combat this very issue. It is my opinion, that all Twin Cam engines should have this conversion done, so you can rest easy on your higher mileage TC engines. The gear drive replacement is an excellent and the only true bulletproof solution."
