1978 BMW R80/7 Starts and runs great! New battery 6/2017 (BROOKLYN) $5000

QR Code Link to This Post I am reluctantly selling my awesome and distinctive 1978 BMW R80/7 due to an unexpected and quite sudden layoff. This unique classic combines the simplicity of a vintage bike manufactured to be maintained by the owner, with upgraded features to add a push-button appeal. I've been the owner for 9 years and the owner before me was a highway patrol man in Ithaca, NY. In the past two years alone I've put more than $4000 worth of major service (see pics) into this beauty including most seals and gaskets the bike over, and rebuilding the front brake and more. These desirable models are appreciating in value, rather than depreciating and this example is perfect for anyone interested in capitalizing on this trend. The bike is in great condition. I had the seat recovered last year. I have an incredible set of vintage 80's Samsonite luggage with original Samsonite keys that mount on to the luggage rack. Speedometer/Odometer is broken. It started acting wonky and then went out altogether. I can give you the advice my mechanic gave to me about finding a rebuild or new OEM. It's been that way for years and I never bothered with changing it because I was concentrating on its mechanical shape. This air-cooled boxer is far more agile than its bigger siblings, due to its shorter wheelbase and better frame geometry. As enjoyable as it is to ride, it's just as pleasing to look at. It's a daily rider and it has it's share of bumps and bruises. Light scratching on the tank and a small bubbling effect in the paint around the petcock. You have to seriously inspect this baby to find fault, though, and it's a head turner! Of course, the bike has a clean and clear title. It has the single, original key that uniquely folds, as well as the metal duplicate that I use instead of the original so I don't loose it. Recent service included a carb cleaning and synch, valve adjustment and head re-torque- oil change as well as trans, driveshaft and rear drive check. All controls, gauges and lights work as they should with the exception of the spedo. This motorcycle is a rider and I have used it as such. I would not hesitate to ride this bike anywhere. I have two bikes right now and I've been riding the other more consistently this summer so I'd say ride away into this glorious early fall weather and then get it serviced again before or right after storing for the winter.
