United Passengers Subdue ‘Psychotic’ Woman

(photo via Flickr/Tomas Del Coro)A United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday after a female passenger onboard attempted to rush the cockpit before being subdued.According to KTRK.com, United Airlines Flight 898 was en route from Houston to New Orleans when one of the passengers began yelling and banging on the walls of the cabin. Eventually, the woman left her seat and charged toward the cockpit.Another passenger on board, Julian Markowitz, asked the flight attendants if they needed his help and they agreed. Markowitz wasn’t the only passenger to leap into action, as four other men helped restrain the woman, including an off-duty pilot.MORE Airlines & Airports“As soon as she started running, I stand up and ask the flight attendant, ‘Can I help you with this? Do you need help?’” Markowitz told KTRK. “She said go for it, so I gently pushed the flight attendant out of the way and started sprinting after the woman myself. She was in a very psychotic state. She was very aggressive.”Once the group restrained the woman, crew members put zip-tie handcuffs on the female passenger’s wrists and ankles to keep her subdued for the remainder of the flight. As a result of the incident, a United spokesperson released a statement thanking the airline’s customers and flight crew.“United Flight 898 from Houston to New Orleans returned to Houston due to a disruptive customer. The flight landed safely, and law officials met the aircraft upon arrival," the spokesperson said.“We thank our customers for their patience, and our crew for their professional actions.”Follow @Donald_Wood
