But the same can be said of any business, including the car rental category. And Enterprise Holdings has some tangible numbers to share to show how important it is to the travel industry and to the economy.Enterprise, the largest car rental company in Canada and the owner of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands, recently revealed that it added $2.8 billion to the Canadian economy in fiscal year 2016.Among Enterprise’s key contributions were:—$2.2 billion in vehicles purchased in Canada;—$270 million in companywide purchases from Canadian suppliers;—$102 million in provincial and local tax payments;—$216 million in payroll expenses;—$2.4 million in total charitable giving; and—$1.6 million in total United Way donations (including Enterprise Holdings Foundation match)."Enterprise has a significant economic impact in Canada overall, but I think the role Enterprise plays in local economies is our best-kept secret," Steven Tudela, Corporate Vice President of Canadian operations for Enterprise Holdings said in a statement."As we grow, we hire, spend and give locally. Our goal is to strengthen the fabric of the neighborhoods where our employees live and work. We're a large international company. But we have the mindset and the culture of a neighborhood business. Every time we open a new location, or expand a business line, that's another Canadian community that we get to be a part of, and that's what keeps us vital and inspired."Thanks to new and expanding airport and neighborhood locations and business lines, Enterprise Holdings has hired in every Canadian Province. In 2016 alone, more than 500 new employees joined the company’s Management Training Program, and the company expects to continue with a steady rate of hiring in the current year.In addition to Enterprise Holdings’ 750 fully staffed neighborhood and airport locations and the more than 5,400 employees across the country, the company plans to expand its footprint in Canada with as many as 15 new neighborhood branches in 2017.Beyond its business dealings, in 2016 Enterprise Holdings Foundation and local Canadian employees collectively contributed more than $2.4 million to local charities, including the national United Way, the Canadian Red Cross, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Moncton Boys and Girls Club, and the Chilliwack Hospice Society.READ MORE: Enterprise Continues College Hiring ProgramEnterprise's Foundation also funded the planting of nearly 850,000 trees throughout British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario in collaboration with Tree Canada and Trees Ontario as part of the Enterprise 50 Million Tree Pledge, with an additional 40,000 trees to be planted this fall.Last year also marked one of the largest donations ever aimed at stamping out global hunger.
