For those who are unaware of these bikes, google "husqvarna automatic dirt bike" for some background. This is a shed find. My dad bought the bike in 1986 and used it for trail riding. It was put in the shed in the early 90's after the transmission would "pop" out of gear. I dug it out of the shed last year and went to work repairing it. I found two issues: 1) The outboard needle bearing on the transmission mainshaft was worn. This was replaced with a new needle bearing. 2) The dogs on the engagement gear and transmission mainshaft were worn. This is a common issue for these automatics and causes the transmission to come out of gear. The shaft and gear were welded and re-machined. While the transmission was apart, the first gear clutch springs were inspected and the clutch hub mounting hole edges were smoothed to prevent spring breakage. Carburetor was cleaned, cylinder compression was checked (+130psi) and she fired right up! I never split the cases or had the top-end apart.New parts include: UNI air filter, spark plug, declutching cable, chain slider, chain rollers, hand grips, front number plate. The bike comes with clean title, extra seat, original owner's manual, clutch hub puller, holding tool, flywheel holder, extra petcock, timing tool, extra transmission mainshaft, vintage gas tank tool pouch, original speedometer/odometer, parts and tools for servicing the bike and an aftermarket plastic gas tank. This tank has a small crack near the front mounting hole that might be repairable.Bike can be registered and licensed for street use with the proper lights, horn, etc.The forks and shocks leak and will need to be rebuilt. I figured the next owner may want to upgrade, so these are being left alone. Strong runner and would make a great trail bike or vintage MXer.
