Με μιά πολύ πρόχειρη ματιά (είμαι στην δουλειά), νομίζω πως αιτία είναι αυτή, από το λινκ που παράθεσες.

Δείχνει να έχει να κάνει με την τάση της κολλεγιάς των διάφορων `buntu με την Canonical και της παρουσίας τους σαν επίσημων εκδοχών του Ubuntu. Εάν δηλαδή θέλεις να είσαι official flavour του Ubuntu, τότε το πάνω χέρι το έχει η Canonical (l'etat c'est moi).
