Συνεχίζοντας στο ίδιο μήκος κύματος, τόνισε πως η «λαϊκίστικη Ακροδεξιά έχει βάλει καθαρά στην ατζέντα της τη διάλυση της Ευρώπης το να γυρίσουμε προς τα πίσω, στους εθνικισμούς».
Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, ο κ. Παπαδημούλης αντέτεινε πως για να «αντιμετωπίσει αυτούς τους κινδύνους και αυτές τις προκλήσεις και για να ξαναγίνει πιο ελκυστική η ιδέα της ευρωπαϊκής ενοποίησης στους πολίτες, πρέπει η Ευρώπη να τους προσφέρει αυτά που τους έχει υποσχεθεί στις ιδρυτικές συνθήκες». Αποσαφηνίζοντας περαιτέρω, είπε πως «η ΕΕ έχει υποσχεθεί ανάπτυξη, σύγκλιση ανάμεσα στις πλουσιότερες και φτωχότερες χώρες, ισχυρότερη κοινωνική συνοχή μέσα σε κάθε χώρα, κράτους δικαίου, πολυκομματική δημοκρατία».
Υπό αυτό το πρίσμα, ο αντιπρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου χαρακτήρισε την ΕΕ ατελή, με ατελή νομισματική ένωση, ατελή οικονομική ένωση, ατελή πολιτική ένωση, και εξέφρασε την πεποίθησή πως «η απάντηση στους κινδύνους είναι να προχωρήσει η Ευρώπη προς τα μπρος, με ισχυρότερο κοινοτικό προϋπολογισμό, με ισχυρότερες πολιτικές συνοχής και περισσότερα χρήματα για τη νεολαία, την έρευνα και την καινοτομία. Χρειαζόμαστε μια στροφή από το δόγμα της αιώνιας λιτότητας στην ανάπτυξη», διαμήνυσε συμπυκνώνοντας το μήνυμά του και υπογράμμισε ότι «αυτό μπορούν να το προσφέρουν περισσότερο οι προοδευτικές δυνάμεις».
Παράλληλα, τόνισε την ανάγκη να διαμορφωθεί ένα ευρύτερο μέτωπο για την αντιμετώπιση της Ακροδεξιάς και του κινδύνου της διάλυσης της Ευρώπης. «Ένα μέτωπο που να συμπεριλαμβάνει και τις δυνάμεις του Κέντρου και της ευρωπαϊκής Κεντροδεξιάς που θέλουν τη συνέχιση και την εμβάθυνση της ευρωπαϊκής ενοποίησης, και σε αυτή την πλευρά ανήκει και ο Γιούνκερ, αλλά δεν ανήκει ο Όρμπαν», υπογράμμισε ο κ. Παπαδημούλης.
