SLIC´s recommendations for the new EU OSH strategic framework 2021-2027

The renewal of the EU strategic framework for safety and health at work 2014-2020 is a high priority for the European Commission this year.In light of this situation, the Senior Labour Inspectors' Committee (SLIC) published a report compiling their recommendations for the new EU OSH strategic framework 2021-2027. SLIC assists the European Commission in monitoring the enforcement of EU legislation at the national level and has the mandate to give its opinion on all matters relating to legislation on safety and health at work.  According to SLIC's report, the following topics should be addressed in the future EU OSH strategic framework: Investments in OSH to prevent work-related illnesses and accidents, thus reducing costs for absenteeism and work-related illnesses. A need to continue updating the EU OSH directives, matching the needs and demands of the new world of work. Mainstreaming OSH into other sectors or areas like environment, education, and procurement. New risks and new forms of work, and additional challenges to effective labour inspection. Health and safety issues related to platform workers.
