Initiative to invite new Greek PM to address joint session of U.S. Congress

Greek American Congressman Gus Bilirakis is taking the initiative to invite newly elected Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis to address a Joint Session of Congress, according to greekreporter.com. “I hope to make this a bi-partisan proposal,” unveiled Bilirakis to Greek Reporter. The Republican Representative for Florida spoke on the phone to Mitsotakis to congratulate him on his victory in Sunday’s general election. He also told him of his initiative, which was welcomed by the Greek PM. A speech by a foreign leader to a Joint Session of Congress is a great honor, reserved for politicians and other figures who are universally appraised and admired. Since 2010, personalities that addressed the Joint Session of Congress included Emmanuel Macron, President of France, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, His Holiness Pope Francis, Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, Binyamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel and Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine.
