First Energy Leadership Summit to be held in Athens in June

Athens will be the location this upcoming June for the launching of the first Annual Energy Leadership Summit. The news came in an announcement made last week at a Transatlantic Leadership Network conference in Washington, according to greekreporter.com.  The Energy Leadership Summit's goal is to build the global clean-energy economy. Experts and industry leaders at the Summit will discuss policies and current practices as well as explore challenges and future opportunities. Hundreds of policymakers and industry leaders in the clean energy arena are expected to attend the Athens event. Greece is considered to be an important player in promoting and implementing clean energy practices due to the country’s abundance of natural resources. According to energy experts, Greece can take advantage of its 300+ days a year of sunshine to promote solar power options, and explore the use of other clean energy alternatives. Additional options for future exploitation are water and wind power, along with the use of clean natural gas. Experts, diplomats and US officials spoke of the significance of having a solid bi-lateral relationship between the US and Greece at least week’s TLN event, titled “Mediterranean Basin: Opportunities and Obstacles.” The University of Piraeus’ Department of European and International Studies and Tsomokos SA  are partnering with the Transatlantic Leadership Network to launch the summit. The event is being organized under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and in association with the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy.
