Athens to welcome carnival season with event in Plaka on Sunday

In a tribute to Greece's folk traditions during carnival, the Museum of Modern Greek Culture is cooperating with the Social Cooperative Enterprise (SCE) Folknet to organise an event that is open to the public this Sunday, to mark the start of the Greek carnival season or 'Apokries', ANA reports. A troupe of northern Greek "bell-bearers" and musicians from Flambouro, Serres will present their local carnival traditions, which include impressive costumes and music, in a procession through the streets of Plaka beneath the Acropolis starting at 11:30. This will pass by Kydathinaion, Tripodon, Kyrristou, Panos and Areos streets where the museum's various current facilities are situated (Aeridon Baths, Panos Street Museum and Tzisdaraki Mosque) and arrive at the spot where the museum is to be relocated, at Areos 10. Entrance to all events is free of charge.
