City of Athens turns into Christmas city of angels during holiday season

A swarm of angels will be released on the streets of Athens as part of the holiday makeover the City has prepared for 2018, it was announced on Wednesday during a press conference at Athens town hall, ANA reports. “This year’s theme draws its inspiration from St Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. We have prepared for our city, its residents and its visitors, a program full of love with angels as our guides,” Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis announced. The holiday season will commence at Syntagma square on December 11 at 19:00, when the lights on the impressive Christmas tree opposite the parliament will be turned on simultaneously with the illuminations across the city, under the sounds of the City of Athens Philarmonic Orchestra and the Children’s Choir of the Music School of Athens. On December 21, an “electronic celebration” of the winter solstice will be organized  at the National Observatory of Athens, with the participation of Konstantinos Beta. From December 22 to 30, Syntagma square will be filled with music from the numerous concerts in the City festive calendar; whereas Monastiraki square at the foot of the Acropolis will be transformed into a dance floor, with dance groups inviting people to join them for some swing and rock n’ roll moves. On December 31, the City of Athens Philharmonic Orchestra will open the celebrations at Thission while the evening will continue with concerts by popular Greek singers Christina Maxouri, Katerina Kouka and Themos Karamouratidis.
