NHTSA: 7 Tips to Stay Safe in School Zones and Bus Stops

One in 4 high school students and one in 6 middle school students are distracted in school zones each day, according to Safe Kids Worldwide. Since 2013, the pedestrian fatality rate in school zones for 12-19 year olds has increased 13%, according to Safe Kids Worldwide. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has called on motorists, caregivers, teachers and drivers alike to stay cognizant and obey school zone signage and stop-arm laws. A recent string of tragedies in Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky drove NHTSA Deputy Administrator Heidi King to release a video relaying the importance of school zone safety.
