TAP construction advances with over 340 km of pipes laid already

More than 340 kilometers of pipes for the Greek section of the 878 km-long Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) have been laid, within the scheduled timeline for the Southern Gas Corridor, according to relevant Greek authorities on Thursday.A meeting on TAP in Greece to review the project's progress took place at the Environment and Energy ministry, in the presence of Minister Giorgos Stathakis. The meeting included Deputy Regional Director Theodore Markopoulos, Kavala Mayor Dimitra Tsanaka, and representatives of TAP, led by the project's managing director Luca Schieppati and the Greek head of the project, Katerina Papalexandri. Of the 550 km in total that are located within Greece, another 240 km of pipes are finished and the private land on which they lie is in process of being restored and returned for use to its owners.Overall, 480 km of the total length have been cleared and prepared for the laying of the pipes, according to the data presented.Among the topics discussed were concerns of the residents of Philippoi, north of Kavala, about safety (especially the presence of turf in the area), future urban expansion, and the management of water for household use and irrigation. A meeting to be held in Kavala under the ministry's aegis that will include representatives of local government and organisations will address the issue and come up with answers that comply with the legal and related restrictions.TAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, a 3500 km-long distribution network carrying natural gas from the Caspian Sea fields to Europe. Its longest section lies in Greece, covering nearly 550 km from Kipoi at the Turkish-Greek borders to Albania. From Albania to Southern Italy it will lie underwater before coming ashore in Southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network. Construction began in 2016.Read more here.RELATED TOPICS: Greece, Greek tourism news, Tourism in Greece, Greek islands, Hotels in Greece, Travel to Greece, Greek destinations , Greek travel market, Greek tourism statistics, Greek tourism reportPhoto Source: Wikimedia Commons Copyright: Genti77 License: CC-BY-SASource: ANA-MPA
