If you have access to the frame serial identification number, you may be able to further identify its history. I believe it is a 1967 Taco 44.I am 59 years old and grew up with taco mini-bikes here in SoCal.I purchased this unrestored dilapidated Taco 44 about 20 years ago in Portland Oregon from a kid who was thrashing it (as all of us did back in the day, painted rattle can green; but I recognized what the little minibike was, a vintage collectible Taco 44).I then fully restored the vintage taco minibike about 15 years. Restoration included :Original Vintage Steens Taco Numbers Stamped Frame with Original Taco Chain Cover : Replaced Front Forks including new springs. Replaced Rear Swing Arms with Custom Chain Adjustable Arms. Smoothed out some nasty Steens welds. Powder Coated Frame - Deep Metallic Purple Bronze Bushed and Shimmed Steering Head for less shimmy at high speeds (less lawn mower performance, and more control like a motorcycle). Replaced all Wheels Spacer with corrosion-free Stainless Steel. All Fasteners replaced with Grade 5 and Grade 8 nuts and bolts (note some where hard to find sizes, and was forced to buy box qty. by the distributors). All New Cables, Throttle Assy, Kill Switch, etc. Aftermarket Front Racing Plate (I thought looked cool) New Taco Duckbill Seat.Drivetrain : 1 Hour Run Time, since restoration. Original 3.5hp Briggs & Stratton engine, was replaced with the Briggs & Stratton Raptor Style 5hp racing engine used for JR Drag Racing. This is not a toy, 205cc of hp and torque. Easily converts to Methanol Racing Fuel for under $30. Racing Header and Silencer (Awesome exhaust note, and not to loud to piss off the neighbors). Mercury Racing Clutch, this clutch with the Raptor Style Racing Engine, will pull me 165lb. adult, from a dead stop, up any 45deg incline with no hesitations. Awesome. All new USA Jack Shafts, Chains, and Bearings.Additional I have for sale : All the vintage collectible (and very valuable) memorabilia, Taco Brochures, Taco Catalog, Taco Magazine Ads, etc. If you are interested in the Memorabilia when you buy the bike, you will need to bring significant additional funds/cash with you, as you know how much just the Original Vintage Steens Taco tri-fold brochures, and Steens Catalogs sell on ebay for.I have not ran, or ridden this awesome little machine in 10+ years, after draining the gas. New owner will be responsible for, oil change, fueling her'up, and getting her outta moth balls, if you care to ride it.Unfortunately divorce, lawyers, and housing issues force me to sell, my never-sell Vintage Steens Taco minibike. I may change my mind to sell at any moment, to avoid regret. So act fast.So true collectors, this once of a life-time opportunity to own, most likely the nicest vintage taco 44 mini-bike in existence. If I don't get my price, I will keep it, so no low ballers need apply.Asking Price $2200. I will accept the highest offer this Saturday, above $2000.Please call only if highly interested.Phone number 503 is my Portland, OR office #, however the taco will be in Lancaster, CA at my SoCal residence.
