AIHA Announces Support for Accurate Workplace Injury and Illness Records Restoration ActThe association announced support for the government employees that are working to introduce the act.May 18, 2017The American Industrial Hygiene Association has announced its support of the Accurate Workplace Injury and Illness Records Restoration Act, a bill that would reinstate the OSHA recordkeeping rule that was overturned this year by use of the Congressional Review Act. AIHA says accurate injury and illness records are essential in identifying and correcting workplace hazards. "Accurate recordkeeping is a cornerstone of protecting worker health and safety," said AIHA CEO Lawrence Sloan, CAE. "It better enables both employers and employees to identify hazards and patterns and target limited resources to areas of need. Accurate recordkeeping further helps to avert future harm that costs businesses, consumers, and taxpayers millions in addition to the significant emotional toll of workplace injuries and illnesses. AIHA applauds the introduction of the Accurate Workplace Injury and Illness Records Restoration Act and supports its swift passage in the House and Senate." The bill, H.R. 2428, would allow OSHA to issue citations where violations of recordkeeping requirements continued for more than six months.
