There is no ways that the Greek Church has a valuation of 5 Trillion Euro's, I agree that the Churches assets should be forfeited to the government, and those assets will pay for the debt 3 x over, however 5 Trillion is pushing it.
When quoting figures, it is always better to quote reputable sources, and I haven't as yet found a reputable source that has quoted anything more than 1 Trillion Euro's. Even though I agree with this, wholeheartedly, I do not think signing a petition is going to make any difference, at the end of the day Mr Tsipras is an Atheist, and if there was ever a government that could take on the Church it surely would be his, however his lack of ability to take on the authorities has been proven over the last few months, so I am not as hopeful that I might have been in this regard. |

The petition organiser wants to take it to the archbishop when the signatures reach 100,000. Also, according to the article I linked to: "Πέντε μονές που προσέφυγαν στα ευρωπαϊκά δικαστήρια εναντίον του νόμου Τρίτση αποτιμούσαν τα περιουσιακά τους στοιχεία στο αστρονομικό ποσό των 8 τρισ. δρχ. (!!!). Και μάλιστα το Ευρωπαϊκό Δικαστήριο τους επιδίκασε το ποσό των 3 τρισ. δρχ."
I haven't checked that data in any official source, but it doesn't really matter. The point is, even though noone knows how much exactly, the church has A LOT - enough to make a serious dent in the debt. And furthermore, this wealth has basically been funded by the people over the centuries, and the people are STILL funding the church, in more ways than one. |

OK then, take a tour around Penteli, where you will find real estate companies named "ΟΣΙΟΣ ΛΟΥΚΑΣ" "ΑΓΙΑ ΚΥΡΙΑΚΗ" "ΜΕΓΑΛΟΧΑΡΗ" etc and ask if you can buy a house in the forest that was burned down three years ago, and legally too...
